What do you do at Northwood?

My role has significantly developed at Northwood since I started 3 years ago. I was originally brought in on a contract position to help with project implementation and data integrity. Currently, as an Analyst, my role has shifted to client investment reporting and analysis. I work alongside my colleagues to help provide quarterly investment deliverables, tax packages, and ad-hoc projects that assist our clients in meeting their financial goals.

What surprised you the most since you've been at Northwood?

What surprised me most since being at Northwood was seeing the relationship-driven approach. Rather than focusing solely on investment management, while crucial, there are many benefits from the planning, wealth administration, and family engagement piece of Northwood’s model. The emotional and human side of a Family Office holds just as much significance as the technical aspect.

What are your favorite things to do outside of work?

Music is a big part of my life outside of work. I play bass guitar in a band that occasionally tours around Ontario and Quebec. Between writing, practicing, and touring it can be quite time-consuming, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. And if it’s not music, you can find me at the bowling alley after work. For many years, I have bowled in leagues and tournaments from regional to national levels.

Fun Fact: I always have at least 6 bowling balls in my car ready to go.

If you could visit any place in the world, where would it be and why?

Without a doubt, I’d have to say Italy. Part of the reason may have to do with the fact that my parents went to explore Italy while leaving me with my grandma in Poland when I was just six months old. Beyond that personal reason, I want to explore the country’s rich culture, history and the delicious cuisine that has always captivated me.

I look forward to experiencing Italy for myself one day very soon.

What is your favourite movie?

My favourite movie is Paddington 2. The movie is a timeless classic featuring not only some of the most wholesome moments in cinema but could also be seen as an exposé on the prison industrial complex. This movie will make you laugh, cry, but most importantly, it will show you the true meaning of family.

What is one of your favourite travel destinations?

Chile was one of the most amazing and geographically diverse places I have ever been. I was fortunate enough to live there for a year in 2017 which allowed me to appreciate what the country has to offer. From deserts in the north to Patagonia in the south, and a mountainous wine country in the center,  there is no shortage of activities in Chile. If I were to recommend one place to visit in Chile it would be to see the “Desierto Florido”. This natural phenomenon happens when it rains in the northern desert, causing the hidden flowers to bloom, and transforming it into one of the most beautiful landscapes in the world. However, you may need some luck since this only occurs once every 5-7 years. Otherwise, a guaranteed hit is Valparaiso on the coast. Known for its “perfect” weather and street art from graffiti artists around the world, it’s a must see on your Chilean adventure.

Anything exciting coming up?

My band is currently in the process of recording our third EP. We will be in the studio in February to track the new songs and are hoping to have it released in the spring with a tour to follow.
