Our History

Northwood Family Office is Canada’s leading multi-family office and a trusted advisor to many of the country’s most successful families. From our humble beginnings as two founders working together at a conference table in 2003, we have grown into a company of over 35 employees that serves the needs of nearly 100 Canadian families.

Founded by Chairman & CEO Tom McCullough and President & Chief Operating Officer Scott Hayman, Northwood is the industry leader and the most experienced and trusted multi-family office in Canada.

From day one, our mission has been to bring direction, perspective and confidence to the everyday management of the lives and net worth of our client families. We help our clients define a clear sense of the direction they want to take, and to develop a broader and longer-term perspective based on our expert and objective advice. This provides our clients with confidence that everything is looked after, well-thought-out, and in safe hands. We also work closely with our clients’ existing professional advisors to ensure that everything is coordinated and integrated.

Northwood has consistently been named ‘the #1 family office in Canada’ in Euromoney’s Global Private Banking survey. Northwood was also recognized as the top family office in North America (in the <$2.5B AUM category) in the 2024 Family Wealth Report Awards.

In April 2022, CI Financial acquired a majority stake in Northwood Family Office. This financial and strategic partnership was put in place to ensure Northwood’s ability to continue to serve our client families in exactly the same objective manner as we have in the past. Northwood staff will continue to both manage the firm and hold a significant ownership stake in the business.
